We have been caught in a light snow returning home on a trip caught short because of a snow warning. The snow did catch up with us on the PA Turnpike and we drove in the snow with the tires that Roadtrek put on the RT - Bridgestones. Regardless of the tires, it is a heavy van that is easily pushed in a heavy crosswind - and we have had regular Chevy vans and they do not do well in the snow - unless they have AWD - and the RT does not. The other issue with driving the Roadtrek in the snow is the salt and brine that is put down on the roads for the ice. This will corrode the RT components under the van - and the only thing to do about it is to wash it off which is not possible until Spring. So we do not drive the RT in the snow or after roads have been salted (unless we are caught unexpectedly. I have read on forums about Chevy RT owners putting chains on when traveling in the snow.Writerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06664259206096691320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8801217063323814316.post-70596134606069189702020-12-15T14:02:33.978-05:002020-12-15T14:02:33.978-05:00Do you use snow tires?

These, though, require, a source of electricity which with the limitations of the batteries in a Roadtrek would mean needing to be plugged in while in use. This is fine - IF - you are in a campground in the winter (many of which are not open where it gets cold enough to need this during those months) but will not help you while driving or dry camping/boondocking. You would also have to find some way to heat the dump system especially if the Roadtrek has a macerator. So - no, having hot water will not help if it is freezing outside. And if water is running from your outside fresh tank into your hot water heater - the water will also be running through all of the plumbing. If you are where you need to winterize you have to winterize. Unless you have a totally heated plumbing system - not sure any Roadtrek has that - then don't try it. The expense of repairing frozen pipes, tanks, and valves is not worth it. What many do not realize about the hot water tank is that the hot water tank will not put out water into the faucet if there is not fresh water in the fresh tank pushing the hot water out of the hot water tank (and refilling the hot water tank at the same time). Even in a 190 with the second fresh tank inside the van, the heat has to be on inside 24/7 and even then there is a limit to how cold it can be outside for this to work - plus the water going down the toilet and the drain to the waste tanks will freeze in those tanks - damaging the tanks. If you want to travel in the winter - use the tricks I show in this article. If you want to not use the toilet bags you could pour RV antifreeze out of the bottle and into the toilet to flush. But even at $3 a bottle you have to have a lot of bottles of RV antifreeze with you to do this - and where are you going to store inside the Roadtrek all of those gallon bottles?Writerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06664259206096691320noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8801217063323814316.post-34546061992524967792015-09-14T16:40:59.213-04:002015-09-14T16:40:59.213-04:00Is it possible to plug RV 110 to your house and sw...Is it possible to plug RV 110 to your house and switch on water heater on winter so you can use RV on winter at any time?audienoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8801217063323814316.post-21415450432505034312014-12-30T00:09:50.960-05:002014-12-30T00:09:50.960-05:00Thank you so much for reading!
